We packed up from our beach house and headed out. First stop was a really yummy farm to table breakfast place. Because Virginia Beach is the proud home of the original waffle cone (invented at the St. Louis World’d Fair by a guy who was from Norfolk), we decided that dessert after breakfast seemed like a very sensible decision.

Next stop was a quick visit to the Lorton Workhouse, which used to be a women’s prison but is now an artist community. Our main reason for stopping was because this prison is where Lucy Burns and the other suffragists were imprisoned and went on a hunger strike until the 19th amendment was passed, allowing women to vote. It was good mojo to stop and give a moment of thanks.

Getting to see some pretty great art was an unexpected bonus!

Our big stop for the day was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Annex, in Chantilly, VA. It houses the Discovery space shuttle, the Blackbird, the Enola Gay and a TON of other cool stuff.

We ended the day with a visit to a local mall and some down time in our hotel. Tomorrow is our last day!
