Friday, 8/2: Day 1

We didn’t make it far our first day, but we started! Our first stop was at Town Line, NY. The town’s claim to fame is that is joined the Confederacy and seceded from the union during the Civil War. After the war, it chugged along for decades, never officially being part of the US (though, functionally, of course it was). Finally, President Harry Truman wrote the town a letter asking them to be part of the US again. The town held a vote and did rejoin the USA, but the vote was not unanimous! Check out the vote count on the plaque!

After a quick, not very exciting dinner from a deli, we hit the road and finished our drive to Angelica, NY (named after Angelica Schuyler, Alexander Hamilton’s sister in law). The girls did a puzzle and watched a movie to wind down.
